The Seasons of Life

Ecclesiastes 3:1 – “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven.”

It is usually in looking back over the events of our lives that we can begin to understand God’s plan and purpose regarding our circumstances. At least for me, I can recall many times when I just couldn’t fathom why God allowed certain situations to invade my life. The problem, of course, is that I had neglected to consider who rightly holds the reins of my life!

Isaiah 46:9-10 – “For I am God and there is no other. I am God and there is no one like Me. Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done saying – ‘My purpose will be established and I will accomplish all My good pleasure’.”

It took me a long time to bend the knee of my heart to this truth. After all, I had plans for my life. I had certain goals in mind and ways to achieve them. They seemed like worthy and honorable goals to me! But there’s the problem. I needed to understand that although I had chosen a path to follow, God had a better one! That sounded pretty good! Except I needed to realize that God would chart the course and I needed to follow HIS roadmap!

It took a while for me to come to the conclusion that this is the BEST NEWS EVER! No longer did I need to plot and plan and arrange my life to suit my desires. My heavenly Father was far more qualified than I to know what is best for my life:

Romans 8:28 – “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good, to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

My life has been so much more free and joyful since I grasped these life-changing truths. No more arranging the events of my life – no more needing to control life situations in order to arrive at my misguided outcome!

Psalm 31:14-15a – “But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord. I say ‘You are my God; my times are in Your hands’.”

I admit that every once in a while, I fall into the old “desire to control” mode. But I now reverse my course much more quickly. I have come to understand and to believe with all my heart that His way is best. He is my rock, my refuge, and my strength.

Psalm 28:7 – “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my hear exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him.”
