“Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day.” (Exodus 16:4)
EACH day. For THAT day.
Although I have been a Christian for more than half of my life, I discovered something recently that has revolutionized my walk with Jesus. I am to live fully, presently and ALL OUT in the “NOW” moment. I am to serve joyfully and to love extravagantly. I choose to be ALL IN regarding God’s present purpose for my day. My screw-ups and victories of days past are in the rearview. As Paul states in Philippians 3:13-14:
“But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
I will always be grateful for my past (the good, the bad and the ugly!) – because it has made me who I am and put me where I am. But I no longer choose to live there. The old is gone. The new has come.
As for the future, it is not yet here. It is in the hands of Jesus. (Jeremiah 29:11 states: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”) So, if I want to be ready for what is coming, I need to tend to what is right in front of me!!!!!!
Yes, life necessitates that we plan responsibly. But in planning, leave room for the Lord to intervene and to change your agenda. You would not want to miss the opportunity for an unexpected blessing!!!
I have only THIS day, THIS moment; so I want to make it count!!!! Each morning, as I arise I say aloud:
“Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, Lord, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul.” Psalm 143:8
I then go to my place of prayer and meditation and give the day to Jesus. I offer up my day, the tasks before me, and the names of and prayers for – those I love. I seek HIS input and HIS imprint regarding the upcoming 24 hours.
And so OUR day begins. Prayer; washing; cleaning; making a grocery list; prepping for bible study; whatever the task is! I look for Him and find Him in the midst of everything! It’s amazing how many instances of grace, love, mercy, and provision I am aware of from my Lord as I expectantly look for Him around every corner. The ordinary day then becomes EXTRAordinary. Thanks be to God!!!!
